Care Groups
Why do we encourage attendance of Care Groups at Foothills?
Care Groups Help Redeemed Sinners Fulfill the Great Commandment
The Pastors and Deacons of Foothills Community Church take seriously the words of our Lord when He responded that the greatest commandment is “…love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind” (Matthew 22:37).
He went on to add, “And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself” (v. 39).
The goal of our preaching, teaching and instruction is obedience of God’s Word, an obedience that results in loving God and others.
This is why Paul wrote Timothy about the necessity of correcting false teaching. They were using the Law wrongfully. Their teaching of the Law resulted in selfishness and wrong heart motives, as well as unloving treatment of others. Paul reminds Timothy that their goal was “love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.” The false teachers were using doctrine in ways that did not result in loving God and others.
The Place of Care Groups
On Sunday morning, we meet for corporate worship as the body of Christ. We consider this time to be of great importance to all believers at Foothills, as this is the main opportunity we have to be together and receive instruction from God’s Word.
We also see the importance of meeting in the small group setting of Care Groups. These provide an environment for us to emphasize the application of the truths we have learned on Sunday morning. Considering the application of truth with those who know something about us and our circumstances provides opportunities to encourage, motivate and care for one another that helps us live in obedience to God’s Word in our present circumstances. Simply put, we believe God uses others to help us be obedient to Him.
Care Groups Help Us Care for One Another
Care Groups provide the opportunity for believers to care for each other. We all need endurance, encouragement and strength because of relationships and circumstances that try our love. God’s grace often comes to us through the loving care of others, as we share victories and grief’s, struggles and burdens, and together take these to the throne of grace.
In summary, Care groups aid us in fulfilling the Great Commandment by providing an environment to love others, and loving others is an expression of our love for God! This is why we encourage all to be involved in a Care Group. We invite you to attend one!
